A little complicated for a backpacking camera
I need a camera that is ready in an instant. When hiking in the back country I don’t have time to mess with settings when an eagle fight suddenly happens in the sky above me. This camera is a little slow for this kind of use, it requires settings and knowledge of camera attributes. Even the point and click setting is not 100% auto focus so you have to make sure you are focused before you shoot. Once I get to know the camera I’m sure to get tons of terrific shots because the quality of the photos is terrific. Definitely a great camera for stationary tripod type use, a little less so for use on the spur of the moment until I get the multi-photo option figured out. In general I love the camera. The battery lasts very, very well when used with the monitor off which is what I need for week long hikes. The video quality is not so great, but that’s not why I bought it. I am a little disappointed with the zoom. It does not appear to get me any closer than my 15x zoom on my Kodak. When I tried testing it against the Kodak, I could not get clarity on the focus at the same distance. I will try again now that I have used the camera a bit more and understand the settings better. Probably user error.A Wildlife Walk Companion
I’ve owned a number of cameras, film and digital, including a Nikon D50. I also have a Sony A350. Both of the aforementioned cameras do great pictures but they are bulky and they are heavy with lens attachments that do anything close to what this compact outfit does. I walk a lot about lakes where thee are a variety of Eagles, Ospreys, hawks, and water fowl. I can whip out my P90, and fill a frame with an eagle on a limb and freeze it. I’ve decided to make the P90 my main “carry along” camera for my walks where I might see a bird or animal I want to capture. I highly recommend it. One thing I was caught off guard by is that it uses the newer HC SD cards, which won’t work in the Nikon D50 and may not work in older memory card readers either. I found that out quickly trying to import pictures into my computer to edit. Get a new SD card reader when you buy the camera. The camera also does NOT come with a memory card, I assume to hold down the buying price. A 2 GB card is plenty of capacity. Why buy a 4 GB or higher when your battery capacity won’t begin to fill it.Great Photo Quality!! Poor portability!
I’ve had the camera for a few months now. Took the camera out on 3 occasions. Once downtown to test drive the camera. Loved the 24x zoom. Stood on the 16th floor of the hotel and took shots of downtown New Orleans. Picture quality was awesome. Second test drive was to my daughters fashion show. The outdoor shots were amazing. Indoor during the fashion show was horrible. Not sure if it was me, but I couldn’t get any of the settings to give me a decent shot. Let me state this, I am a novice photographer at best. I’m sure skills may play a major role here. The third test was taking the camera to Disney World. Again, the zoom and tilt screen came in really handing when trying to get a good shot of the characters during the parade. I was able to raise the camera above the crowds and just tilt down to aim my shots. The zoom switch was great for one hand handling. The auto focus or anti-shaking function (whatever it’s called) saves the day. Having said all that, I always returned the camera to the carrying case when it wasn’t in use which made it a bit of a hassle to try to snap something when I was on the rides. Only 2 stars for portability. Think I’ll have to invest in a point and shoot pocket size cam. So, long story short. I highly recommend this camera.mostly very good
Over all, I am very pleased; but am disappointed with the clarity of long range shots. at full 24 X or close, the focus is not that good.F’ing GREAT!!!!
This is the best camera I have ever had. Easy to use. Once you read the manual, it is amazing the things this little guy can do. A WINNER!!!!!More Info: Nikon Coolpix P90 12.1MP Digital Camera with 24x Wide Angle Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom

This is the scanner I have needed for years.
For quite some time I have wanted to save all the stuff in my filing cabinet digitally and get rid of the paper, but every attempt I have made with different flatbed scanners have failed, mostly because the process took too long and was too labor intensive ( scan page, wait, turn page over, scan again, wait…. you get the picture). Then I found the Scansnap S1500M and wow, what a difference. This scanner will scan both sides in one pass and it is fast. I have it set to check all pages of the document and to create searchable PDF’s so I can use spotlight to search and find what I am looking for. I am running Snow Leopard so I had to download the updates from Fujitsu but it all seems to work just fine. The scanner came with Adobe Acrobat professional, but I have not installed that yet since my objective was to scan and store documents, not manipulate them once they were scanned.
Overall, if you are looking for a way to scan in documents that are legal sized or smaller, in simplex or duplex, quickly and efficiently, I would recommend this scanner.
I would give it all 5’s if it support Bonjour
Great scanner. I had a couple of 40 page documents that I needed scanned and this prompted me to purchase this scanner after some research. The only negative that I can find is it does not support Apple Bonjour for wireless scanner. I have it working with Mac OS 10.6.x
Amazing…
Okay…I don’t write many reviews, and I would never (usually) spend an obnoxious amount of money for a scanner for home use…but I am striving to be more OCD and track receipts and documents. I scoured the products available for the Mac, and decided I would try this one. I already own a Neat portable scanner that was worked well, but was way too slow. I figured that I’d buy this, and if it was mediocre, I’d return it. I have several Macs and run Snow Leopard.
This is amazing. It is wickedly fast, produces terrific scans (even photos), and has an ease of use that is intuitive. The software is really good (compares favorably to Neat) and I am able to email, store, or print scans instantly. I am really impressed with this. Flawless on my MBP (2.5 GHz, Snow Leopard), but also terrific on an old Mac Mini running Panther, which I have dedicated to the scanner.
Bottom line: No fear with this baby. Still pangs of guilt over the price, but if I become better organized, it’ll be worth it.
First Impressions are Great
Just received this yesterday. I DL’d the Snow Leopard updates – there are 2 – one for the SCANSNAP and one the the bundled FINEREADER.
Installation was simple and quick. So far the operation in essentially flawless.
Just saw that AMAZON have this under review – not sure why – mine seems to be in perfect working order.
Highly recommended for the paperless home.
Fujitsu ScanSnap
I love this scanner. The only problem is I can’t figure out how to scan a document and convert the pdf to a Word document, which I know I should be able to do. Of course, when I contact the software people, they say contact Fujitsu–well, you know where this is going. Other than that problem, the quality of the scanned document is INCREDIBLE and it can scan a two-sided document in one scan. Pretty cool.

beware of crippling customer support issues!
Sling media has the most arrogant technical support one can imagine, and one of the most cryptic online systems to boot. Beware if you ever want to run 2 Slingboxes remotely.
I have had my first Slingbox for about 6 months. Having one Slingbox is great, but beware when you try to run two…
I purchased the second Slingbox about 5 months after the first. I was able to set up the second Slingbox just fine to work inside my house. However, for reasons I did not understand, on my iPad’s Sling Player software (for which I have paid an additional $30) only one of the Sling Players showed up in the “device directory”.
I tried to contact Sling technical support several times, but with no success. First, they only give you free support for the first 90 days – after that you have to PAY for it. Now my second Slingbox was under a month old and *they should have known that* because you need to register the Slingbox online before you can first use it. But they refused to even speak to me without jumping through lots of hoops. I did not manage to get the customer support I am entitled to – I gave up after wasting about half a day.
Their web site did not have a solution to my problem either. It was only by accident that I found a solution to the problem on my own, days later.
The problem is that Sling appears to think they are a media company rather than a hardware company. They are trying to make you watch video in the browser rather than using player software on your computer, and they have delusions of grandeur in how they approach placeshifting. To do anything using a Slingbox, you need to create an account on [...] and log into that.
Strangely, they have a second web site called [...], which is where they also do the Dish network tie-in. You will need to go to this second site as well and register your Slingbox there a second time, or the iPad/iPhone App will not recognize your second Slingbox.
I am not sure if this should happen automatically, but for my account, the second SlingBox did show just fine on [...] but was unknown at [...] – and hence the iPad App did not see it.
None of this is intuitive. The least they should do is help people out with this for free. Nothing on any of Sling Media’s web sites tells you that you need to go to [...] in addition to [...] – I found this info on an external web site after searching on Google for a long time.
When I had only one SlingBox, I told everyone how great it was. Now, having experienced how arrogant and incompetent customer service is, my opinion has changed 180 degrees. With this attitude to customer service, buyers should beware.
Slingbox regrets
I am now the owner of not one piece of crap but two. Slingbox solo and Slingbox ProHD after 90days of technical help no one has been able to get the pro HD running . Much to my regret I purchased the ProHD after unsatisfactory capabilities of the Slingbox Solo were realized. Not being able to watch separate channel. The PRO HD and support of Slingbox technical has been one nightmare I wish I had passed on.Not only gettting the units to work has been an act of frustration but even atempting to purchase the extended warranty has been an act of futility .I would never go through this again.I will forego TV watching first.
Slingbox with AT&T U-Verse
I was able to install my SlingBox PRO-HD to work with U-Verse within four hours. The net result is excellent, making it well worth the effort of a surprisingly bumpy installation.
- The physical installation is very easy and the cables that come with the SlingBox are nicely packaged and coded
- The SlingBox software installation was much harder than it needed to be. The down-loadable installer doesn’t work with Chrome at all. It claims to work with IE, but the messages requiring a response would often get hidden, making it annoyingly impossible to complete the install. When I switched over to Firefox, everything worked perfectly, and the installation was done in 3 minutes.
- SlingBox did recognize the U-Verse system, and its Motorola gateway (I have the Motorola VIP-1200). This enabled me to start receiving U-Verse programming on my PC immediately, using my home WiFi network.
- The placement of the remote IR cable onto the VIP-1200 was easy enough. I ended up using two of the cable heads to get optimal coverage of the sensor.
- The SlingBox software offered me the correct definition of the emulated remote channel changer, and I was able to start using it immediately. It does feel a little strange at first, but it is an ingenious emulation that lets you control almost all of the functions on the VIP-1200.
- Getting through all of this and getting the SlingBox to work inside my house took about 90 minutes.
- I am a little disappointed that the system does not import the AT&T U-Verse Programming Guide directly. (It declares that this feature is only available on cable or satellite systems). However, using the emulated channel changer, I am able to scroll through the AT&T channel lineup as if I was sitting in front of the TV. I can also control all of the DVR functions perfectly well with the emulation buttons, and access previously recorded content, and even delete programs that are no longer required.
- Then I went on to configure network access, by sitting at Starbucks and attaching to an AT&T WiFi hot spot. This was the hardest part of the installation process. The SlingBox configuration utility demands a Username and Password for the in-home router. My in-home router is a U-Verse branded 2Wire 3800 HGV-B, which doesn’t seem to have a username, although the password is provided on an external label. The lack of a username caused the SlingBox configuration utility to reject my attempts to use it.
- By going to the 2Wire website, I found some helpful notes on authorizing SlingBox traffic to pass through the 2Wire firewall using a pin-holing technique. With this, I was able to configure my in-home router directly, and I didnt need the deficient SlingBox utility to help me anymore.
- Now, I was able to start watching my home TV content inside the comfort of the Starbucks store. The U-Verse uplink in my home is capped at 1.5Mbps, but this does not seem to harm the overall picture quality.
- Total installation time was about four hours. It could have been less than two hours with a better software installation package, but I am looking forward to enjoying the product now.
Can Slingbox be used in Denmark (electricity)?
Hello. Have just bought Sling Media Slingbox PRO-HD SB300-100 with you. Many thanks for the good service and fast delivery .. super.
Only a question … I live in Denmark … Can Slingbox be used for our electricity which of course is 220V. I need a converter, of course, because it is another plug one we use here with us. Again and one can reply me fast if I can safely put the box in our power ..?
very good product
excellent product but, setup is not easy, if you have dish network try to put two IR cables one on top and one on bottom, the instructions dose not tell you that, hope this help with you installation.

AWESOME!
Best Netbook ever! Bought it for my 70 year old Mom. Easy to set up to use for e-mail, skype and the internet.
amazing
I bought this as a christmas present for my boyfriend, and HE LOVES IT. It has been almost half a year and he says it still runs perfectly. This is a fast, stylish (very shiny and sleek), and light netbook. I would definitely recommend this to everyone!
Great netbook!
I purchased this netbook for my wife for her birthday. She is big user of Facebook and email and would have to fire up our large HP desktop computer and stay there to keep updated before she got this netbook. Now she can surf all day long with this netbook anywhere in the house! She absolutely loves it (I was worried at first since she doesn’t normally like tech gifts).
The only problem we had was that the battery would never charge above about 90%, so the battery charge indicator would never go green. Even with that, it still would run 8+ hours!! After about a month of use, the battery did start charging to 100% (and the indicator turns green now).
I looked at several other models and almost bought the Best Buy version of this Eee PC – DON’T! The Best Buy model seems to use a smaller battery and still costs the same or more than Amazon.
If you need a netbook, this is one of the best.
Avoid this — as long as it ships with Windows 7
Fair warning — the computer ran pretty well for the few weeks we had it after Christmas. And then . . . the problems started. Just Google “Windows 7″ and “Public Network.” Our “Netbook” cannot get online. We’ve tried solution after solution with no luck. Do NOT buy this “Netbook” if you want to actually get on the internet!
Very dissatisfied. No support/help from Asus, and of course none from Microsoft. Everyone blames someone else.
Great little machine!
I’ve had this netbook for a little over two months, and am thoroughly pleased with this machine. It does exactly what I need it to do (internet and light Office work) with ease. I swapped out the ram for a 2 GB stick, so I can’t say if I would get the same results “out of the box” (that is, with only 1 GB ram). Battery life is excellent (if not what it’s listed by the manufacturer), 8 hours or so on a single charge. Windows 7 loads extremely fast (compared to my Win XP machine). Asus website has a utility program to allow you to change your wallpaper (stupid limitation of Win 7 starter), no need for any of the other “bells and whistles” of full blown Win 7 OS (this IS a netbook, not a more powerful laptop). If you are looking for an inexpensive machine to do light computing work, you can’t go wrong with this one!

Does not do what it says it will do!!!
One of the features that Samsung says that their televisions have is an Alarm System that turns the TV on in the morning. That was the main reason I purchased Samsung TV. Most other TV’s only have a sleep time off feature.
After receiving the TV and hooking it up, I could not get the alarm feature to work. I spent hours on the phone with a Samsung Customer Service Rep who finally insisted that is was FIOS cable’s problem. I then called FIOS and spent an hour with them arguing. They insisted it had nothing to do with them and that it was the TV’s problem. I called Samsung back and the first level CS advisor tried very hard for quite a while and finally transferred me to the 2nd level Technical support. After trying for quite a while and he put me on hold and came back saying:
“THE ALARM FEATURE ONLY WORKS IF YOU DO NOT RUN TV THROUGH A CABLE BOX”. (only directly to the wall) Words escape me!!! What a joke, in this day and age of cable, I would call that fraudulent advertising. Since Samsung features are not the simplist to use and the colors on the TV take much adjusting, I would never recommend or buy another Samsung TV again.
26″ DIGITAL TV-SAMSUNG
Good price, shipped very fast and was as advertised.
Very good product and very good dealer. Would use again without reservations.
a little disappointing
The picture is not nearly as sharp as I expected. This unit is hooked up to a cable system. Maybe an HD signal would look better.
Love Samsung
Bought this for an extra bedroom. I had bought several Samsung products in the past, and had good luck with each. This model is extremely easy to set up. It’s got a good picture and adequate sound, for this size screen.
Amazing Picture Quality
My last television was a huge monstrosity that weighed so much that I’d have to find a muscle man to move it around. When it finally died on me, I was a little excited. The thought of a new television is quite thrilling! After doing a bunch of internet research and going to the local retailers to check out the new world of televisions, I decided that in my price range, this Samsung 26 inch TV was the best quality I could find. When the set arrived at my house, I was surprised that I could lift the box. Once it was out of the box, the sight of how sleek and slim it is nearly left me breathless. But what is most exciting about my new TV is the amazing picture quality. The colors are so vivid and vibrant. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. Such crisp lines, such bright colors – has television always been this amazing and I’ve missed it? With a television this fantastic, I may not leave the house for a few weeks
